This was one of my favorite details from one of my favorite weddings a few years back.

 

Oh how Lauren & Barrett's wedding still makes me smile!! It truly was so "them" in every way.

And I loved how they personalized each guests escort card by not only naming the tables with past pets names--yes they had that many past pets--big time animal lovers- love that about them! But they also added a fun detail of the buttons to each guests escort card. Guests LOVED it! It was fun how everyone was checking out each others buttons and it was a great conversation starter too!

unique table assignment "escort cards"

Some people call them place cards, some people call them butler cards, I typically refer to them as Escort Cards-- the seating assignment cards so your guests can find their way to their table that they have been assigned to for dinner. No matter what you call them- I'm a HUGE fan of assigned seating because if you spend all the time and money into having a very nice meal, then your guests should get to enjoy it to their fullest as well. So, it takes effort on your part as the host/hostess to figure out like a giant puzzle who would be great sitting with your other guests with common interests but in the long run it helps make your guests enjoy the party. All too often what happens at an event without assigned seating is you may have a table with 10 chairs and you may have a group of 14 people that all want to sit together and rather than dividing up and sitting at 2 tables they will pull chairs from other tables and "squeeze" together at one making it awful for the service staff and leaving your guests that might be a party of 2 or 4 all by themselves at a table. :( It's just not fun and it's not pretty. So, I love Assigned Seating. And I love fun escort cards that help make your event unique to you. Anything your guests touch, taste, hear, see--I want it to be a reflection of you!

So, one of my favorite examples is of Anne & Frank's wedding this past May. They LOVE thoroughbred horse racing. It is a definite passion of theirs and I love that they came back to the beautiful Bluegrass for their wedding, and not to forget their stunning vintage inspired engagement photo session at Keeneland Race Course too-they make me smile so big just thinking about them! Anne gave us an inspiration photo of what they kind of wanted and we ran with it to make it happen!

 
We took this gorgeous piece of artwork and chopped it up into even pieces and had the cards calligraphied with their guests' names on them and the table assignments on the back. It was so stunning and everyone loved them!
